Dia del Nino
Dia del Nino (Day of the Child) is a day dedicated to honoring childhood. Potter Valley Youth and Community Center in collaboration with Comunidad Latina de Potter Valley asks you to join us for this wonderful celebration. On Monday, April 30th from 5- 8pm there will be food, music, dancing, and games. This year, Dia del Nino will be a potluck. Please bring your favorite dish to share with the community. This way, each person will learn about new traditions and try new food.
Dia del Nino or Day of the Child is celebrated in many countries all over the world, the date of the event may vary but the meaning of the celebration is all the same.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This month and throughout the year, Potter Valley Youth and Community Center encourages the community and organizations to play a role in making Potter Valley a better place for families. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, resources and skills they need to care and support their children. We can help prevent child abuse and neglect by strengthening both families and our community. This year, we will have a presentation on positive parenting available to anyone who would like to participate. The presentation will be put on by the Children's Action Committee and FIRST 5.
Potter Valley Youth and Community Center promoted Child Abuse Prevention throughout the Month of April. We participated with the Children’s Action Committee annual walk in downtown Ukiah, asking businesses to post flyers in their windows. We worked with FIRST 5 Mendocino in promoting Control Your Remote – a campaign asking parents to limit the amount of TV children watch and promoting screen-free activities.
April is a time to celebrate the important role that communities play in protecting children. Everyone’s participation is critical. Focusing on ways to promote the five protective factors, in every interaction with families, is the best thing our community can do to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect.
Join us as we honor and celebrate the children in our community on Dia del Nino here at the community center 10270 Main Street, Potter Valley.
